Seafarers’ mental health during the COVID-19 pandemic: An examination of current supportive measures and their perceived effectiveness

The article analyzes the results of a survey of 817 seafarers regarding the effectiveness of 22 different methods of supporting the mental health of seafarers during a pandemic. The impact of: communication with family, behavior of colleagues, atmosphere on board, timely crew changes and many other factors on the mental health and general well-being of the crew during the pandemic were described.

The article concerns the study of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the mental health and chronic fatigue of seafarers. It also describes ways to mitigate the negative effects of the pandemic and increase resilience by: increasing support from other crew members, ensuring the availability of external support and providing fast and reliable internet access.
